FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a huge blaze in Edinburgh.

Crews raced out to a fire "affecting a number of properties" on George IV bridge in the city centre at 6.15am this morning.

Among the buildings affected are Patisserie Valerie and The Elephant House, which is the cafe where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter.

A number of roads in the area are locked down, and Lothian Buses confirmed that all services along that route have been diverted.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.18am on Tuesday, August 24 to reports of a building on fire at George IV Bridge, Edinburgh.
