Idea of the proposed Slovak pavilion for Expo 2015 in Milano is coming from the theme of Slovak Republic for Expo 2015 "Slovakia, World in the Pocket". The proposal also strongly reflects the main theme of the Expo Milano 2015 "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life".
Architectural design of the pavilion is based on the characteristics of Slovakia as a small size country but with great diversity of its cultural and natural wealth.
Mass of pavilion correspond with cross-section of Slovak landscape, incorporates typical features of the country, such as mountains, valleys, fields, towns and villages. The building is conceived as a single mass, which is based on development of Slovakia in time. Reflects the development of towns and villages . Visitor enters the pavilion and will be able to experience Slovakia in a nutshell. Visitor will pass through a field of sunflowers, continues through house, goes across mountains, caves and other natural beauty and will finish in the city center. Smooth gradation of the building into two peaks indicates the dominant country, High and Low Tatras. Pavilion allows visitors to experience the selection of routes.
Facade, which is formed with the highest wall , creates a portal and entrance to the building. Concrete surface is also a climbing wall . Climbing wall symbolizes tourism attraction but it is a kind of pavilion itself. Visitors can enter the interior of the pavilion through the portal , the rock that recalls the entrance to the cave. Visitor will get into the area of exhibit of cultural heritage, which continuously follows to space dedicated to regions and cities. High and rough internal ceiling bears elements of caves but it has also noble and sacred character. Important point in interior is location of the artifact , which is located in the middle of the space, inside a feature sticking from the ceiling. It is combined with a water streams which characterizes our greatest wealth. After viewing the exhibits we come to a large meeting room, where is located video projection and finally to a restaurant with a terrace. Roof of the terrace consists of three peaks that characterize one of the symbols of Slovakia : mountains peaks of Tatra , Matra and Fatra. At the end of the pavilion, located above the restaurant are stairs that lead toward the" mountains" and give the visitor the other views and interesting way across pavilion.
The pavilion is located on a rectangular plot. The land is accessed from the southern part of the main promenade. It is neighboring another pavilion from the west. From the north its sitting next to plaza and there is also promenade that connects the street and plaza , which closes the eastern boundary. The main access to the pavilion is located in the south part of the promenade . On the left side of the front entrance is a field of sunflowers. On the right side is viewing platform. Pavilion is entered through a portal located in the middle of the building , further passes through two presentation rooms and entering the meeting room. Restaurant with kitchen is located next to meeting room. Between the kitchen and meeting room is on entry to the dressing room , toilet for visitors and access to staff room. Restaurant can be accessed from the terrace located on the east side and also from the north of the square . Staff entry is situated on the west side of the property . Than its leading to the administrative part of the second floor . Here you will find a meeting room with a view of exposure and offices with exterior terrace . The entire facility covers a green roof , which can go from the promenade smooth ramp , or from the square exterior stairway .
