Описание к видео How to Present Like Erwin McManus

I'll be showing you how to present like Erwin McManus on this week's episode of MasterTalk. Visit https://www.rockstarcommunicator.com/ to attend one of my FREE LIVE online trainings.

1. Speak to your audience like you’re an old friend. (0:45)

What I love the most about Erwin’s communication style is he doesn’t speak above other people like hey I’m this celebrity pastor, but rather, speaks with you, almost as if he’s a concerned uncle or father or brother who’s sitting you down at a campfire and telling you stories about his life in hopes that you walk away with the answers you’re looking for. He does this through a multitude of ways.

One is his vocal tones; he generally keeps them pretty low, he also uses a lot of self-depreciating humor where he’s constantly making fun of himself in small, playful ways and finally when he gives the advice, he communicates it in such a soothing way that it doesn’t feel like advice. We feel his heart and his genuine concern when he talks and it’s a strategy I do my best to bring into my communication game. The lesson is spend more time just having dinner with the people you actually want to help. That style can really only be developed if you take the time to really figure out what’s on the minds of your audience and then you can give off that same energy on a stage.

2. Tell stories that make people fall in love with WHO YOU ARE. (2:13)

Erwin says it best: “Whoever tells the best story shapes the culture.” And what he means by that in my view, is that oftentimes, as human beings, we don’t really remember facts, numbers or statistics, but stories are what stays with us for life. That’s why when Erwin gives talks or sermons, his focus is really on storytelling, so that we remember what he wants to convey to us.

But it’s more than that, Erwin’s stories are not just about showcasing his expertise or his value in the marketplace or selling his products, but his personal stories give us a look in WHO HE IS and HIS UNIQUE ESSENCE & EXPERIENCES. Think about your life for a second with me and ask yourself what part of it am I choosing to hide from others that could help someone?

It doesn’t have to be dark, maybe it’s a funny story about how your parents never let you go to parties, so you found a way to sneak out and wanted to teach other teenagers how to do the same. These quirky stories remind our audiences that we’re human, that you’re just like me, meaning – that we all do great things for the world, we don’t have to be perfect.

3. Find your uniqueness, because there’s an idea only you can share with the world. (3:42)

Erwin says this better than I do. We, as humans, have a unique capacity to imagine ourselves different than we are, better than we are. Human beings can materialize the invisible. Most of us have unique ideas, because by definition, there’s only 1 version of us and they’ll ever be only 1 version of us for the rest of human history. This means that there’s SOMETHING in our unique set of experiences that can be taught and showcased to the world. But the question now becomes… how much effort will you make to uncover that piece of yourself?

This is what separates the best in the world from everyone else, is their willingness to pursue and find their uniqueness. The easiest way to start this journey is to ask yourself this question that I got from Peter Thiel: What is one truth you believe about the world that most people disagree with you on? Often what we disagree with others on leave clues to discovering a unique way of seeing the world. Follow those points of view that you hold that most don’t have or think enough about and you’ll carve a path towards your uniqueness.

The question is NOT can you create, but WHAT will you create? – Erwin McManus. Erwin is a constant reminder for me of this important idea that as human beings, we are UNIQUE creatures with UNIQUE gifts & talents. Given that, we must seek them out and share them in the service of others.
