Over 3,500 Gambians voluntarily returned home early this year, according to a report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Under a joint venture with The Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration in the Gambia, the returnees have been helped to reintegrate into society. Over 70 percent of these individuals returned from Libya and another 25 percent came back home from Niger. The remaining 5 percent came from Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, and Tunisia. The returnees, however, face many challenges. Edith Kimani meets with young returnees and members of the International Organization for Migration in The Gambia to find out how best they can re-adjust to life back home.
