The Kingdom of Bavaria was a significant German state from 1806 to 1918; established in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. Under the rule of the Wittelsbach dynasty, it experienced periods of cultural and economic growth, especially during the reign of King Ludwig I. It participated in the unification of Germany in 1871 but lost its sovereignty with the collapse of the German monarchy after World War I.

Fun Fact:
The CEO's of BMW home is the state Bavaria (now in modern Germany). The 4 CEOS wanted their home state to be represented on the company logo. The quarters of the inner circle on the BMW badge display the state colors of the State of Bavaria – white and blue.
