I used a Phillips screwdriver and the Sylvania 7440 Long Life Bulb for replacement. It's better to wear gloves because the skin oil may prevent the bulb from heating uniformly. Now PChem: The metal sublimes inside the light bulb due to the more prominent entropy effect at higher temperatures (A = U - TS). At high temperatures, the entropy effect overcomes the energy effect---metal atoms start to overcome the attraction from their neighboring atoms, just to be free. Under the constant volume (isochoric) condition, the Helmholtz energy A of the isochoric system keeps decreasing until it reaches the minimum (the 2nd law of thermodynamics).
