Ravan Dahan is the dramatic, culminating ritual of the Hindu festival of Dussehra, which celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The festival concludes with the burning of massive effigies of the demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna, and his son Meghnad, to commemorate Lord Rama's victory over Ravana as described in the epic Ramayana.

Massive effigies: The effigies are towering, multi-story structures constructed from bamboo, paper, and discarded cloth. Artisans meticulously create them over weeks, with the figure of Ravana traditionally featuring ten heads to represent ten negative qualities. They are often filled with fireworks and firecrackers to heighten the spectacle.

Grand celebrations: Ravan Dahan is often the highlight of a larger community festival, or mela. The event is preceded by cultural programs, music, and dramatic theatrical performances of the Ramleela, which reenacts scenes from the Ramayana.
