Former U.S. President Donald Trump's criminal trial on charges of falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment to a porn star continues in New York.

Trump is said to have given his two eldest sons greater powers in selecting staff for a potential second term and weeding out anyone considered “disloyal”.

In an effort to place his family at the centre of influence, the former president has put Donald Jr and Eric in charge of his tentative transition team, which will select about 3,000 officials to work in a new administration.
