We joined Gaby and Sharleen for Galway Library Services' Online Book Club!

This week, we dived into Under the Hawthorn Tree by Marita Conlon McKenna — a powerful tale of resilience set during Ireland's Great Famine. We teamed up with the brilliant students of Kilnadeema N.S. to explore the book’s themes of survival, family, and hope.

Last week, we had the incredible honour of meeting Marita herself at Ballinasloe Library, where she shared insights into her writing and the inspiration behind the story.

Huge thanks to Sarah Gallagher and Shane Gohery for guiding their classes through this unforgettable read and helping bring the story to life. The book club was a wonderful celebration of young readers engaging with Irish literature!
