On the evening of September 7, 2025 on the beach of Catania in Sicily, the moon became dim from the Earth's shadow between Sun. Captured total lunar eclipse using a Point & Shoot Sony RX100 VII in XAVC S 4k w/ Manfrotto tripod. Catania International Airport was open with active departing flights crossing the moon trail with a flock of birds also.

The moonrise was expected at 19:16, but due to the horizon, the moon was not observed until 19:44. The moon was reddened by the atmosphere in total eclipse. At around 20:45 the eclipse exit phase began and at around 22:00, it returned to the normal full Moon.

The moon was visible due to Earth filtering the sunlight with its atmosphere and scattering it into space, favoring red wavelengths, which is why the moon, even though in total eclipse and some 400,000 kilometres away, remained dimly visible, illuminated by diffused light.

The next total eclipse of the Moon will be on 31 December 2028.
