History
In 1983, CBS Electronics released a groundbreaking game for the Atari 2600 called Tunnel Runner. Developed by Richard K. Balaska Jr., this game was notable for its first-person maze gameplay, a rarity at the time and a precursor to the 3D games that would follow. Tunnel Runner was one of three games from CBS that included an additional 256 bytes of RAM in the cartridge, a feature they branded as RAM Plus to enhance the gaming experience. This extra memory allowed for more complex and engaging gameplay, setting a new standard for console games.

Scenario
The player is thrust into a series of mazes, each one more challenging than the last. The objective is to navigate these labyrinths from a first-person perspective, searching for the key that unlocks the exit door. But beware, the mazes are patrolled by creatures known as Zots, which the player must avoid while racing against the clock. As the levels progress, the Zots become faster and can even pass through walls using their Zot magic, increasing the game's difficulty. The changing colors of the walls add another layer of complexity, especially in levels with black walls where only the floor is visible, making it a true test of memory and skill.

How to Play?
To play Tunnel Runner, the player uses a joystick controller to navigate the mazes. The game offers two modes: Game 1, with pre-programmed mazes, and Game 2, which generates random mazes for each level. The player must find the key and reach the exit before time runs out. If they fail, they must restart the level. The player starts with three lives and can earn more by scoring points through quick escapes and discovering secret doors. The FIRE button reveals an overhead map, showing the player's location, the Zots, the key, and the exit. However, as the game progresses, the map's visibility decreases, adding to the challenge.
