For my Year 12 choreography piece, I chose to portray those suffering in third world countries, as well as Australia. My aim was to bring to light the labels put on those who are struggling and how they don't have their own identities according to those not personally connected to the situations. We tend to turn a blind eye to what we don't want to see and label those who are suffering as "the starving kids in africa" or "homeless people" etc when really, they're just like everyone else just stuck in shitty situations. The black masks resemble their labels and how their true identities can't be seen through them. As my character gradually feels intimidated by their confronting stories, they then nurture me and show that even those who are struggling are capable of compassion, allowing for my character to understand that they have their own identities as human beings. I then grow attached to these people lending a helping hand and in the end, I see them in their terrible environments and open my heart to them.

I wish it could have been filmed up closer so the detail of the make-up is better seen but you still get the idea haha :) This is my first attempt at choreographing a group piece so please keep that in mind!
