In this video, we will explain how you can challenge a decision made by the DWP regarding your Universal Credit claim, if you think the decision was wrong. If you believe a decision made by the DWP regarding your Universal Credit is wrong, then you can inform them of this and request that it be changed. You must ask for a “mandatory reconsideration”, which can be done through your online Universal Credit account or, if you don’t have one, then you can request one in writing by sending a letter.

There is a time limit on requesting a mandatory reconsideration, which is usually one month from the date of the Universal Credit decision. You will receive a “mandatory reconsideration notice” once the DWP have reviewed your decision.
