In this video, you’ll learn how you can buy crypto in a Self-Directed IRA with Checkbook Control.

Checkbook control allows you to direct your own investments without custodial involvement in everyday transactions. To establish checkbook control you must form either an IRA LLC or IRA Trust for your Self-Directed IRA.

Broad Financial will assist you in establishing checkbook control through the creation of an IRS compliant LLC or trust for your IRA. We’ll take care of all necessary paperwork. To get started, you’ll complete Broad Financial's easy online application.

At the same time, you’ll work with our sister company, Madison Trust, to open a new Self-Directed IRA. You’ll work directly with Madison Trust as your Self-Directed IRA custodian to fund the account.

To fund your Self-Directed IRA, you’ll transfer or roll over funds from a previous retirement account, such as an IRA or 401(k), or make a contribution.

Once your IRA LLC or IRA Trust has been established, you will open a checking account in the name of the LLC or trust at the bank of your choice. Then you’ll instruct Madison Trust to move your IRA funds directly into that dedicated checking account.

Now that your checkbook account is set up and funded, you will typically open a business crypto exchange account in the name of your IRA LLC or IRA Trust, not your personal name. It is important to remember all investments and accounts held in your Checkbook IRA should be titled in the name of your IRA LLC or trust.

Finally, you can simply fund your crypto exchange account from your IRA LLC or IRA Trust checking account directly.
