CIDCO appoints Maha Metro to run Navi Mumbai Metro for ten years, Metro service expected by year end

CIDCO, the agency in-charge of Navi Mumbai Metro project, has appointed Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) for running services on Line 1 of the project for a period of 10 years. It had earlier appointed Maha Metro to execute the balance work of the line.
CIDCO will pay Rs 885 crore plus taxes for operation and maintenance (O&M) of metro rail services on the line for 10 years, which it says is the lowest in the State. The 10 year period will begin from commercial operation date (COD) of Line 1. Navi Mumbai is the third city in Maharashtra, where Maha Metro is executing a metro rail project.
CIDCO vice chairman and managing director, Sanjay Mukherjee has stated that after appointing Maha Metro for engineering assistance of metro line 1, CIDCO has given Letter of Acceptance to Maha Metro for the Operation and Maintenance services on this line. Thus, the work on this line will be completed speedily and it will be possible to start the passenger services on this route at earliest. Giving prime importance to all infrastructural projects is my priority. This decision is a major step towards it.
CIDCO is confident that part of first phase of the much delayed Navi Mumbai metro project will be completed by this year end giving the city its much awaited metro service. The remainder of Phase 1 is expected to be operational from December 2022.
