Foot Health for Athletes!! PGA Golfer Anders Albertson. 10 Exercises.

Foot & ankle training is one of the most neglected components of athletics, sports, performance, fitness, & even overall health. Without proper foot & ankle mechanics it’s impossible to do any lower body exercise correctly. That means your squats, hinges, lunges, deadlifts, jumping, sprinting, running, & even walking mechanics will be off.

Additionally foot activation impacts the entire kinetic chain as it signals upwards from the feet all through the musculature of the legs, core, trunk, torso, & even neck. So yes foot mechanics impact your whole body. It’s for this reason I emphasize foot exercises, barefoot training, & proper foot mechanics on all exercise with my athletes.

They also either go barefoot or wear barefoot shoes like Vivobarefoot (code DRJOEL20) in order to maximize their foot activation & function. Traditional shoes compromise & blunt this response as they act like a crutch allowing the muscles of the feet to become lazy & complacent. So if you have dysfunction, compensation, & joint pain, then try fixing your foot & ankle mechanics.

Even if you’re doing a full body workout you can still emphasize feet & ankles as we did here.

The 10 Exercises from this workout.

1.Single Leg Sprinter Stand on Blackboard device (code JOEL). We set the blocks offset so it’s creating a valgus force against his foot wanting to cave his arch in. He then has to resist this by popping his arch up & pushing more toward outside lateral portion of foot while still aggressively squeezing big toe down hard.

2. Single Leg Med Ball Squat to Rotational Chest Pass.

3. Kickstand Trap Bar Deadlifts

4. Chinese Plank Bench Press.

5. Single Leg Stand on VIBEX whole body vibration platform (increases motor unit recruitment & proprioception). Use code DRJOELVIBE.

6 Renegade Rows.

7. Kickstand RDL Dumbbell Snatch.

8. Barbell Split Squat Lunge Hanging Band on Foam Roller Hover roller.

9. Kettlebell Dorsiflexion Weighted Pullups.

10. Hanging Band Split Stance Overhead Press.
