In this first session of the EPIC pediatric case studies miniseries, Trina Becker, MS, CCC-SLP, and Beth Bergstrom, MS, CCC-SLP, will explore the Etiolgy, Profile, Impact, and Client-Specific (EPIC) in a speech-sound disorder case: Childhood Apraxia of Speech. The case will be critically analyzed to determine the etiology of the concern/symptoms and to develop a profile of defining and descriptive characteristics. Next, the functional impact of the area of concern will be used to create a client-specific intervention plan.

About the Hosts:
Trina Becker is a professor in the Department of Communication Disorders and Sciences at Eastern Illinois University. She teaches the courses Augmentative and Alternative Communication, AAC for Beginning Communicators, Phonological Assessment and Remediation, Advanced Speech Sound Disorders, and Advanced Clinical Treatment and Methodology. She also directs clinical services at EIU, co-directs the EIU Autism Center, and supervises graduate student clinicians working with various pediatric communication disorders.
Beth Bergstrom is a senior instructor in the Communication Disorders & Sciences Department at Eastern Illinois University. She teaches content in the areas of Cleft Lip and Palate, Pediatric Feeding, Evaluation and Therapy, and Clinical Techniques and diagnostics. She supervises both undergraduate and graduate students in clinical practicum. Mrs. Bergstrom supervises clients with a variety of disorders, including individuals with developmental trauma. She also serves on the multidisciplinary evaluation team for autism at the EIU Autism Clinic.
Trina and Beth founded B&B SLP in 2021 to offer professionals and parents clinically relevant and practical educational resources. Trina has presented at the state and national levels on various topics, including AAC, Speech Sound Disorders, and Developmental Trauma.
