At TECNALIA, together with our partners in the PIVOT project, we are working on the development of new structural concepts for #RailwayVehicles. We are mainly looking for lightweighting using #CompositeMaterials, such as carbon fibre.


The challenge is to find the propter manufacturing process, suitable for the size of the parts, the typology, and the production rate of the sector, and using materials that meet the appropriate specifications.


With this in mind, at TECNALIA we are looking on a concept of "one-shot" hybridisation of different #ManufacturingProcesses and the integration of different materials, such as foams or pultruded profiles, within a vertical infusion process.


The aim of the project is to demonstrate that this type of multi-material "one-shot" processes with out-of-autoclave curing are the most suitable for this type of parts and for the sector.


To this end, we have worked on the development, conceptual design and manufacture of scale demonstrators of some railway components, such as, in this case, a floor.
