The sole proprietor can choose to:
• work in his/her own name;
• register a distinct trading name.

Authorization
Professionals like dentist, architects, and engineers need to have specific qualifications to be allowed to operate as sole traders in Ireland.

Foreign Entrepreneurs
Foreign citizens must obtain Irish residency before registering as sole proprietors in Ireland.

Paperwork
The following documents need to be drafted for sole trader registration:
• Form RNB;
• valid ID/residence permit;
• Business Name Certificate (if applicable).

Registration
The Irish sole trader must register with the Revenue Service.
When working under a different name, Companies House registration is also required.

Tax Number
Sole proprietors must also obtain tax identification codes.
VAT registration is optional.

Bank Account
The sole trader must also have an Irish bank account to keep track of his/her transactions.
