Crystina Smart is a singer, songwriter, and multidisciplinary artist whose work blends music, symbolism, and introspective storytelling. She began performing and writing music at the age of fourteen, growing up immersed in sound at the feet of her mother, a church pianist and organist. Surrounded by harmony from an early age, music became both a language and a refuge.
Her creative practice is rooted in vocals and songwriting, drawing from literary influence, musical tradition, deep introspection, and careful observation of the human experience. These elements give her work emotional weight and narrative clarity, particularly within the traditions of Delta Blues and Southern Rock.
Crystina’s musical journey began in musical theatre and evolved through years of singing background harmonies and lead vocals in bands throughout her college years and beyond. Although she earned a Master of Science in Leadership and Ethics from John Brown University and pursued a corporate career after being discouraged from following music professionally, she continued to write and sing independently.
In mid-life, renewed encouragement—particularly from her husband—led her back to the stage as co-lead singer for Pinetop Renegades, where she performed original work and rediscovered her artistic voice. In 2022, she was awarded the Arkansas Arts Council Fellowship Award for Achievement in Delta Blues Songwriting and Performance, a milestone that affirmed her dedication to original music and inspired the full realization of her songwriting catalog.
Following a severe autoimmune attack that temporarily left her unable to walk, Crystina made the pivotal decision to pursue her musical path independently. With the support of fellow artists, she learned music production and released her blues and southern rock album, To Know The Blues—a hard-earned testament to resilience, craft, and creative reclamation.
