Gangster Vikas Dubey, who was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in Kanpur on Friday, conjured the image of a typical don who dabbled in real-estate, won a district-level election and rubbed shoulders with political figures.
In less than 24 hours of his arrest, Vikas Dubey was shot dead by the police who claim that he was trying to escape after the car carrying him from Ujjain to Kanpur overturned. Police said the gangster snatched a pistol from one of the policemen injured in the accident and was shot when he opened fire while trying to flee, an account being questioned by many.
