🌊 Exploring Croatia's Hidden Coral Reefs 🪸

We spent a year diving around the island of Iž, documenting the Mediterranean's only reef-building coral - Cladocora caespitosa. These incredible formations are home to countless marine species, but they're disappearing fast.

KPA Zadar, one of Croatia's oldest diving associations, led 17 dive surveys to map coral colonies and record their health. What they found was both amazing and concerning; the reefs are crucial for marine biodiversity but face serious threats from climate change and human activity.

The project combined serious marine research with community education, including workshops for kids and presentations at international conferences. It's citizen science at its best - experienced divers working with scientists to protect what matters.
