Delicious, chewy white button mushroom is the most common variety of edible mushrooms cultivated and consumed worldwide.

Button/white mushrooms can be easily recognized in the shops/store as they are widely available among cultivated mushrooms. Small, young buttons feature ivory-white caps closed around the stem. Larger buttons feature open caps with brown gills which become darker as they mature further.

Young buttons have pleasant, unassuming flavor, while their flavor intensifies in open capped, larger ones. Avoid those featuring white underneath gills as they can be poisonous.

Under the supervised farms, cultivation of white mushrooms undertaken on artificially prepared "compost" beds. Well prepared, pasteurized compost works as a food source most suited for the growth of the mushrooms, keeping out other fungi and bacteria. In the next phase, commercially prepared mushroom seeds (Mycelium spawn) are then implanted evenly in the compost mixture.

The casing is a top-layered soil, spread over the compost-spawn bed. Clay, loam, peat moss, etc., can be used as casing. Casing helps retains moisture; prevent drying out of the underlying compost-spawn mixture and easily spread, and growth of mycelium into rhizomorphs from where small mushroom heads appear (pin-head mushroom). Pin mushrooms expand and grow further into button size, soon ready for harvesting. Harvesting occurs in a 6-9 days cycle, lasting for 5-7 weeks.

Button mushrooms are very low in calories. They offer essential protein and amino acids, sufficient levels of mineral, vitamins, and fiber.

Cuttlefish are nutritious mollusks that can improve your health by providing considerable amounts of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Similar to its other relatives like squid and octopus, cuttlefish is also a main ingredient in many of the Asian and Mediterranean dishes such as stir-fries and stews, soups and curries. Just like other types of mollusks, cuttlefish may also have high amounts of contaminants in their body and so it is important to consume them in moderate amounts. Cuttlefish have a remarkable ability to change their skin color according to their surroundings and hence are sometimes referred to as the chameleon of the sea. The pattern on their skin keeps changing in order to camouflage themselves from predators and also as a means of communicating with other cuttlefish.

Cuttlefish is a good source of nutrition when eaten in moderation. A 3-ounce serving of this mollusk provides you with 134 calories, 1 gram of carbohydrate, 28 grams of protein, and 1 gram of fat. They contain unsaturated fats, especially omega – fatty acids like eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), both of which play a major role in reducing the risks of heart problems by lowering blood pressure, lowering triglyceride levels, preventing blood clots and blockage of arteries. Cuttlefish is a great source of many vitamins. It consists of many of the health benefitting vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin C, niacin, riboflavin, vitamin B6, folate and vitamin B12. It also provides you with significant amounts of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium. As mentioned earlier, cuttlefish is likely to have contaminant such as mercury and cadmium and hence it is recommended to limit their consumption to twice a week
