Hammer and Shield was chosen because i need it to make space to use the minigun and Engineer has very few tools if he is in a bad spot. Masterwork pistol is there to deal with armoured specials and elites. The Crank Gun can deal very well with Hordes and Unarmoured elites if you line them up in the right spots.
