The Battle of Omaha Beach was a critical part of the larger Normandy Invasion, also known as D-Day, which took place on June 6, 1944, during World War II. Omaha Beach was one of five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France, codenamed Operation Overlord. The operation was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history.
