Once you finish the quest “Gathering Ethereal Cobwebs” and return to Mark, he gives you more than just a reward. He tells you about a mythical creature called the Wyrddeer. That’s when the side quest “Hunt for the Wyrddeer” begins, leading you into one of the more unique and rewarding challenges in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, the Stagfather Shrine Trials.

These trials are hidden across the three main regions of the game. Each shrine gives you a hunting challenge where you must take down three Wyrddeer, appearing one after another with a short gap between each. If you fail the trial, you’re not locked out forever. Just rest at a bonfire for a day or so, and you’ll be able to attempt it again.

To improve your chances, it's smart to brew potions that stop stamina drain for about sixty seconds. This way, you won’t run out of energy during the fights. Using King’s Power at the start of the challenge to slow down time gives you an opening to land early hits before the Wyrddeer start dashing around. It’s also a good idea to do your first Wyrddeer hunt during the Wyrd hours of the night. This will unlock the Bestiary entry and also trigger the Prey of the Wyrdness achievement. Just be careful if you’re on a controller, since the Bestiary pop-up might delay your use of King’s Power at the wrong moment.

When it comes to weapons, two-handed melee options are your best bet. They hit hard and only need one stamina bar, making them more efficient than dual-wielding. Fast spells can work if your build supports them, but archery should be avoided unless your stats are maxed. It’s just not worth the resource cost otherwise.

One of the first Stagfather Shrines you’re likely to come across is located between the Abandoned Village and the King’s Road. That’s also where you’ll hunt down the Wyrddeer tied to Mark’s quest. If you rest near that shrine during the Wyrd hours and then begin the trial, you’ll also unlock the Pilgrim of the Wilds achievement.

Completing the trial rewards you with rare crafting materials like Wyrddeer Pelt, Wyrd Antler Fragments, Wyrd Bones, Wyrd Venison, and more Ethereal Cobwebs. If it’s your first time clearing the shrine, you’ll also receive special recipes: The Stag’s Defiance, The Stag’s Woe, and Wyrddeer Stew.

So if you're looking to upgrade your gear, complete achievements, or just want to dive into a well-designed side challenge, the Stagfather Trials are absolutely worth your time.
