On this day in 1943, the Battle of Wadi Akarit (Operation Scipio) began.

Men of the Eighth Army swept through the Gabes Gap, taking Italian prisoners on the way. At an advance dressing station casualties, both British and Italian, were treated before being taken back by ambulance.
