Civil Courage | On the Brink

Описание к видео Civil Courage | On the Brink

Eric Ward has been advocating for civil rights for more than 30 years as a writer, community organizer, and now executive VP of the nonprofit racial-justice organization, Race Forward. Amid the ongoing, post-October 7th protests, Ward has identified a worrying new fault line in the U.S. civil rights community, with people taking “sides” and judging others for their positions, rather than focusing on Middle East crisis solutions.

He shares his insights about the threat to democracy here at home in Episode 4 of Dialogue for Change, with host Hari Sreenivasan.

Featuring an interview with Eric K. Ward, a nationally recognized expert on the relationship between authoritarian movements, hate violence, and preserving inclusive democracy. In 2021, he became the first U.S. recipient of the Civil Courage Prize — an honor awarded to “the extraordinary few among us who resolutely pursue freedom for many despite the consequences to themselves.”

Ward is the former Executive Director of Western States Center and the current Chair of The Proteus Fund. He is outspoken about the impact of rising racism, antisemitism, xenophobia and anti-LGBTQ violence on the health of democracy and civil rights.

Ward writes for numerous media outlets and is also a member of the Pop Culture Collaborative’s Pluralist Visionaries Program and the recipient of the Peabody-Facebook Futures Media Award.
