What can I say about this footage? Rare and Magnificent! That's what!
The Boeing 737 was (and still is, thanks to the rejuvenated 737-MAX) the workhorse of so many of the world's airlines.
Here in the UK, British Airways was the main operator of the 737, however many charter airlines adopted the type because of it's perfect capacity and range for flying to holiday hotspots across Europe.
In this brilliant and rare video, filmed by my friend Ian Austin, you can see several legendary names in aviation that are no longer with us.
Britannia Airways, Dan Air, Air UK Leisure, SPANTAX and Orion Airways all make an appearance, along with Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Transavia, Air France and, of course, British Airways.
One of the true highlights of the video (if what you see already was not enough!) is the appearance of one the two Orion Airways Airbus A300's!
In 1987 Orion wanted to expand it's operations and capacity and for this, acquired two ex Lufthansa A300's, they seated nearly 400 passengers but remained in the fleet for less than 2 years.
This is because Orion was taken over by Britannia in early 1989 and the two A300's were quickly disposed of.
One bonus in the video is that of a British Airways 1-11-408EF, this was one of the final 1-11 flights in the UK. The aircraft, although in BA colours was operated at the time by Maersk Air of Denmark. Oh, and a British Airways Boeing 767-300 in it's Landor livery also makes an appearance, quite poignant, as the type is leaving BA service as this video is published in late 2018.
My grateful thanks to the legend that is Ian Austin for recording and keeping all these wonders for so many years and then handing them to me to upload.
