Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has concluded his two-day visit to South Korea. The trip is seen as a resumption of shuttle diplomacy between the two neighbors. But at the same time, South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party and representatives of civic groups organized protests against Kishida's visit to Seoul, the first by a Japanese Prime Minister in five years. What tops the agenda for both sides? And why has such a meeting divided South Korean society? And what does the current state of Japan-South Korea ties mean for this region? To discuss these and more, we are joined by Prof. Zha Daojiong from Peking University, Prof. Robert Kelly from the Department of Political Science at Pusan National University, and Prof. Benoit Hardy-Chartrand from Temple University, Japan.
