VR FINLAND INTERCITY TRAIN IC27 HELSINKI TO TAMPERE, FINLAND - EKSTRA CLASS (2023/2024) (4K)

After arriving on the Tallink Ferry 'Megastar' from Tallinn, it was a short Tram ride to Helsinki Central Station.

I allowed plenty of time between the Ferries arrival and the departure time of the train to Tampere, so there was no rushing around.

The IC27 train arrived 10-15 minutes prior to departure.

Given the upgrade to the Ekstra cabin was only €10.90, for the added comfort, quiet, plus its own bathroom, plus Tea, Coffee & Water it was a no brainer regardless of the journey only being just over 1 & 1/2hrs.

The trip was extremely smooth, and quiet, my biggest concern was falling asleep, and waking up somewhere between Tampere & Oulu, the final destination for that service.

During the trip, several passengers used the small phone closet/booth near the entry point to the cabin, and it does its job very well. You can be standing near the door and they can be in full conversation and you hear next to nothing.

At the other end of the cabin is the bathroom, a storage area for baggage, plus plenty of hanging space, and hangers for winter jackets. There is also a baggage storage area near the entry door of the train carriage for large or heavy bags. (if concerned with security, I personally have found Finland one of the safest places to travel, so, in my opinion, nothing to worry about).

It wasn't long before the train arrived in a dark, and very cold Tampere, with a short walk to my hotel, Lapland Hotels Arena.
