Ullaskar Dutta was a freedom fighter associated with Yugantar revolutionary group.He was born in the village of Kalikachha in Tripura District (Now in Bangladesh) of undivided Bengal.His father Dwijadas Dutta was a professor in Engineering College at Shibpur.After passing Entrance Examination in 1903,Ullaskar took admission to Presidency College.However he was expelled from the college after hitting Professor Russel following the derogatory remark about Bengalees made by the later.Eventually Ullaskar came in contact with Barindra Kumar Ghosh and other active members of Yugantar revolutionary group.Ullaskar was an expert in making Bombs.He was involved in making the mines used in the assasination attempts of the then Lieutenant Governor of Bengal Andrew Fraser twice in between Chandernagore and Mankundu and once in Narayangarh near Kharagpur.In the famous Alipore bomb Trial, Ullaskar was arrested on 2 May 1908 from Muraripukur Garden house along with others and he was sentenced to death by hanging in 6 May 1909. Later, on appeal, the verdict was reduced to transportation for life and he was deported to the Cellular Jail in Andaman. Following brutal torture in the Cellular Jail and Ullaskar is said have lost his mental balance. He was set free in 1920 and he returned to Kolkata. Ullaskar was again arrested in 1931 and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. He returned to his home village Kalikachha when colonial rule ended in 1947. After returning to Kolkata in 1948 ,he married his childhood friend Leela, who was the daughter of Bipin Chandra Pal and at that time was a widow and almost cripple and undergoing a prolonged treatment at a Calcutta Hospital.Sometime later the couple left for Silchar in Assam.Ullaskar did not accept the pension that the Government of India had been offering to political sufferers.Ullaskar died on 17 May 1965 .
