'The Gothic Imagination' was a 2012 season of dramas on BBC Radio (both Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra) - rather like the 1996 Gothic season it ran from mid-October to mid-November, with Halloween at its heart.

Since I posted three of the short dramas from the season the other day, I might as well unveil the major dramas too - starting with this adaptation of Dracula.

There are a good many BBC radio adaptations of Dracula (though perhaps surprisingly the first BBC adaptation didn't appear until 1975), and so far this is the most recent one. It's a little understated in terms of sound design, but the performances are strong and the adaptation by Rebecca Lenkiewicz teases out some aspects of the story that usually go uninspected.

The Gothic Imagination version of Dracula was followed by a new adaptation of Frankenstein, so I suppose I should put on the channel next...
