Anyone can learn how to be funny, it doesn’t matter whether you’re the class clown or teacher’s pet. That’s because humor is a skill, which means, the question isn’t “are you funny?” It’s “what kind of funny are you?” In this two person TEDx talk, brothers Dave and Andrew Tarvin share their unique methodology–rooted in a blend of academic insight and practical experience–to offer new strategies for personal and professional growth using humor. By identifying which of the seven humor personas you embody, you can improve your communication skills, build better relationships, and learn how to be happier (and healthier (and hotter)).

Dave Tarvin is a communication professor at Texas A&M University where he teaches courses including public speaking, intercultural communication, and the Rhetoric of Humor. He earned his PhD from Louisiana State University, where he also discovered the positive impact of using humor in the classroom. Andrew Tarvin is a comedian, keynote speaker, and all around nerd. He is the author of three books, including Humor That Works, and his previous TEDx talk on the Skill of Humor has more than 14 million views (only half of which were from their mom). Together the two brothers have developed these humor personas through 10+ years of research and application, plus a lifetime of being siblings. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
