Since the war erupted last year, we have been on the frontlines of an escalating crisis. Every day, we rescue and care for an increasing number of abandoned and injured animals from the hardest-hit regions in the South. Our shelter, once a haven for unhoused pets, is now bursting at the seams, struggling to cope with the sheer volume of pups and kittens suddenly without families or homes.

The severity of the situation hit a peak this month when after the deadliest day this country has seen since the civil war, over 40 animals were dumped at our doorstep. Hundreds of people have perished, thousands are wounded, and tens of thousands are displaced. Many of them had pets. Desperate families, forced to flee their homes under the threat of bombings, had no choice but to abandon their beloved pets and hope for the best.

Among these heart-wrenching stories is one of a man who arrived in tears, clutching his terrified cat. He had been seeking refuge in a school because his own residence no longer existed. He begged us to shelter his pet while he searched for a new roof over his head.

As we write this, the streets are congested with people fleeing the war-torn south and east of Lebanon. The bombings are continuing unabated and forcing families to leave behind their beloved pets. Homeless cats, dogs, local wildlife, and even animals from farms and zoos are a devastating part of this humanitarian crisis. The number of those animals is swelling, and the cries for help are growing louder and louder. We need outside support.
