Lembas Bread (Elvish Bread from Lord of the Rings “One small bite can maintain a man for a day”)
• Lembas contain honey and light colored fruit and flower water
• Lembas was a yellowish color on the outside and a cream color on the inside. It was often wrapped inside a green leaf to remain fresh.
• They are thin and regular-shaped
• They contain the "fruit of the Mallorn Tree" - a fictional tree from Middle Earth. The "fruit" is described as a nut with a silver shale.

To make Lembas you will need the following Ingredients:
2 & 1/4 cups Wheat Flour
2 Tablespoons finely chopped roasted Almonds (or other nut)
1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon Salt (omit if using salted butter)
8 Tablespoons cold unsalted Butter
1/3 cup Honey
2/3 cup whole Milk (or Flower Water)
1 Egg – beaten (eggwash) OPTIONAL

Optional add-ins to make it more filling/nutritional:
2Tbsp- 1/4c ground flax seeds
2Tbsp chia seeds
2Tbsp- 1/4c Wheat Germ
2 Tbsp- 1/2c other dried fruit or nuts, finely chopped
1/2c Oats

Procedure:
Set oven to 450 degrees
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl
Cut the butter into chunks and form a fine meal with a pastry cutter or fingers.
Mix the honey, milk and fruit separately
Add milk mixture to flour mixture using a fork until a dough forms being careful not to overmix
Lightly flour dough and Flatten with a rolling pin to 1/2 inch.
(Place dough in 1 gallon zip top bag. Slit open sides. Flour both sides and roll out in zip top bag- prevents dough from sticking to rolling pin & contains mess.)
Cut with a 4” square cookie cutter
Place on greased (or parchment lined) baking sheet 1” apart and cut in a criss-cross ½ way through each cake to prevent rising
Use a pastry brush to coat the cakes with beaten egg
Place baking sheet in oven and bake until fork comes out clean and cake is golden brown (about 10 minutes)
cool for 10 minutes before moving cakes to a cooling rack
Wrap cool cakes in non-poisonous leaf and tie each with hemp string or butchers twine
