What is a Chlamydia test?

Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease. It is caused by the bacteria Chlamydia turcmatis. The bacteria can be spread through oral, anal and vaginal sex. It can also spread without penetration and ejaculation. The bacteria can grow in the vagina, cervix, uterus, bladder, rectum and sometimes even in the throat and eyes.

Chlamydia infections sometimes do not show any symptoms. However, people who are sexually active should keep getting tested. It can be treated with antibiotics. If it is not treated, it can cause infertility in women and reduced fertility in men. It can also cause liver inflammation and problems during pregnancy in women. In some cases, chlamydia can also be passed from mother to child.

If a person's test result is positive, his partner should also get this test done. It is important to note that chlamydia can spread even during treatment, so a person should avoid sex until he or she is completely cured.

Why is a chlamydia test done?

Many people infected with chlamydia have no or very mild symptoms. The following are the symptoms of a chlamydia infection:

Women :-

• Bleeding during or after sex
• Spotting between periods
• Heavier bleeding than usual during periods
• Discharge from the rectum or vagina
• Pain when urinating
• Pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis
• Abdominal pain

Men :-

• Pain when urinating
• Pain in the testicles
• Swollen testicles
• Unusual discharge from the rectum
• White discharge from the penis

Frequent urination is a common symptom of chlamydia in both men and women. If the infection is in the eyes, symptoms such as eye pain and discharge from the eyes may develop.

How is a chlamydia test done?

It is a simple and painless procedure that does not take much time and can be done at any time of the day. There are two ways to do a chlamydia test:
