Physically, recreationally and culturally, climate change is a problem that affects Detroit residents across the board. In recognition of Earth Month, “American Black Journal” and BridgeDetroit team up to examine the impact of climate change on people of color and low-income residents in Detroit, and how it’s putting their health and safety at risk.

We visited the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood on Detroit’s lower east side for a look at the flooding problems that continue to plague the residents after heavy rains. One Detroit Senior Producer Bill Kubota talks with residents and experts about possible solutions to the growing issue.

Plus, host Stephen Henderson leads a community-focused roundtable with BridgeDetroit environmental reporter Jena Brooker, Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition Executive Director Jamesa Johnson Greer, and Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice Executive Director Laprisha Berry Daniels. They talk about health issues arising from flooded homes, air pollution regulations, and the importance of residents speaking out on environmental issues to bring change.
