In this lesson, you’ll learn how to use triads to create smooth soul guitar licks, fills, and chord embellishments—the kind of ideas you hear in classic soul and ’70s R&B recordings. Triads let you choose your register, move fluidly around the neck, and unlock hidden musical phrases that work across multiple genres.
We start with simple A major and D major triads, adding hammer-ons, pull-offs, and double stops, then build into a classic I–ii–iii–IV soul progression with tasteful 16th-note embellishments. You’ll also learn how triads can imply larger chord sounds (like major 7 and minor 7 chords) while keeping your playing clean, light, and musical.
