This became standard practice for all Disney dark rides over the years, which is why you can see in Walt Disney World’s Peter Pan as well as Disneyland’s Fantasyland rides.

Claude Coats also oversaw the blacklight effects a few years later in the colored waterfalls of Rainbow Caverns Mine Train 🌈

A few points of clarification:
The rides we have in Fantasyland now (and that I feature here) are not the originals. In 1983, Fantasyland went through an extensive remodel which demolished the original versions. However, the original rides also featured a transitional space that was lit with incandescent light before the black light scenes.

Alice in Wonderland also went through a complete remodel in the 80s, and though it didn’t open until 1958, I included it here for several reasons: It was largely created by Claude Coats and it was planned to be included in opening-day Fantasyland (even as a walk-through), so I consider it in the same era as the other rides in terms of design.
