This is a quick demo of an electric cylinder made with 4040 V-Slot. The driver is a Leadshine DM2C-RS556 driving an open loop 3N stepper via RS232. There's no controller needed to send step and direction pulses. This uses preconfigured paths.

It just happens to work out perfectly with an Igus square nut for their 1/4" high helix lead screw with a 1" lead.

The only major issue is the belt size. This is a 90XL timing belt which is much too tight - its actually bending the lead screw slightly. 100XL is too loose, so something like a 92/94 XL belt would be perfect. I was trying to stay away from printing spacers and use off the shelf components as much as possible.

This is a design I really like. It's incredibly compact for having around a 7" stroke. I think it's something that people could improve on. I'm planning on the next video doing a build of it.

The version of Motion Studio here is Leadshine 1.49. Note that StepperOnline also uses motion studio. You don't need a driver or motor to test out the software. Just select 'offline mode' and explore away!
