Construction of a full-scale steel plate-concrete (SC) demonstration building (SCHEDULE) by SCI Director, Bassam Burgan.

In a Project coordinated by SCI, a replica of a diesel generator building was constructed at full scale as a demonstration of the use of steel-concrete double skin composite (SC) construction in the nuclear sector.
Fifty-eight such buildings have been constructed in reinforced concrete (RC) in the past, hence ample data was available for comparison of effort, time and material usage between SC and RC. The presentation will summarize the factors considered in modularizing the building, the methods of module manufacture, the construction process and will highlight lessons learnt during the project.
