Chittoor, Aug 17 (ANI): Police in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh arrested 10 red sandalwood smugglers on Monday. Police launched a search operation based on a tip-off and nabbed the smugglers while they were on their way to neighbouring Chennai city with the sandalwood. The cache of red sandalwood seized from this group of smugglers is worth rupees 650,000. Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkata Kishore said the smugglers were using a vehicle without a number plate for transporting the stock. Andhra Pradesh is home to stocks of red sandalwood, whose felling, transport and sale is prohibited in India but which is highly prized for furniture in China and Japan.
