Описание к видео DIY Resin Ocean Clock | Easy Beach Art for Beginners

An example of a finished resin ocean clock featuring a vivid blue ocean with white waves and a sandy beach decorated with seashells. In this guide, you’ll learn how to create a similar clock from scratch, even if you’re new to resin art. We will cover everything from gathering materials and preparing your workspace, to mixing and coloring resin, creating realistic waves, embedding beach decorations, and installing the clock mechanism. Follow these step-by-step instructions, and you’ll be able to craft a beautiful ocean-themed clock while avoiding common pitfalls along the way.

Materials and Tools Needed

Gather all your materials and tools before you begin. Here’s what you’ll need:
• Clock Base: A round wooden board (MDF or plywood) of your desired clock size (e.g. 12 inch/30 cm diameter). Ensure it’s smooth and clean.
• Epoxy Resin (2-part): Use a clear art epoxy resin that cures hard (often a 1:1 or 2:1 resin to hardener mix). Check that you have enough for your project (about 8–12 oz or 240–360 ml for a 12″ clock, including all layers).
• Colorants: Pigments or dyes for resin in ocean colors. For example:
• Blue and teal/turquoise pigments (for ocean water). Using a mix of a deep blue for the “deep ocean” and a greenish-blue or teal for the water near the shore creates a realistic effect .
• White pigment (opaque) for creating wave crests/seafoam. (Tip: Resin pigment pastes or opaque white alcohol ink work well for waves.)
• (Optional) A sand-colored pigment (or acrylic paint) if you plan to tint resin for the sandy beach instead of using real sand.
• Beach Materials: Clean dry sand and small beach embellishments:
• Sand: Fine grain sand (craft sand or sanitized beach sand) to create the beach section of the clock.
• Seashells and Pebbles: Small shells, pebbles, faux pearls, or sea glass to decorate the beach. Choose flat-bottomed pieces if possible so they adhere well.
• Miniature Decorations: Optional small figurines like a mini boat, starfish, or beach umbrella to embed in the scene (the example above includes a tiny boat on the water).
• Resin Mixing Supplies:
• Disposable mixing cups with volume markings.
• Stirring sticks (wooden popsicle sticks or silicone stir sticks).
• Plastic spreader or silicone spatula for spreading resin.
• Note: Also have extra cups or silicone molds to pour any excess resin (never pour leftover resin down the drain).
• Application Tools:
• Heat gun or hair dryer (with a concentrator nozzle) to spread resin and create wave effects. A heat gun provides the directed heat needed to form lacing in the white resin waves .
• Torch or lighter (small butane torch is ideal) to quickly pop bubbles in the resin after pouring . (A torch is very effective for removing bubbles, but use it cautiously to avoid burning the resin.)
• Paintbrush or foam brush (for applying glue or sealant on the base, if needed).
• Toothpicks or bamboo skewer (to pop tiny bubbles or position small items).
• Protection and Setup:
• Drop cloth or plastic sheet to protect your work surface from spills.
• Painter’s tape (masking tape) to tape off edges or the underside of the wood to catch drips. (Also use tape to cover any pre-drilled clock hole to prevent resin from leaking through, if the base has a hole.)
• Level tool to ensure your work surface is perfectly level – resin is self-leveling and will flow off if the surface is not flat.
• Protective stands (blocks or cups) to elevate the clock base off the table, so resin can drip off edges without gluing your piece to the table.
• Clock Mechanism Kit: A clock movement with hands and battery:
• Clock mechanism (with shaft length suited to your base thickness).
• Clock hands (hour, minute, second) and a battery (usually AA).
• Drill and drill bit (appropriately sized for the mechanism’s shaft, often ~8 mm) – to create a center hole if your base doesn’t have one.
• Ruler or tape measure (to find the center of the circle for drilling).
• Safety Gear: Nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and a respirator mask (for organic vapors). Ensure you have good ventilation in your workspace.
