Did you know that the seasoning you use can have health benefits? Cayenne and other red chili peppers have been shown to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Cayenne has a high concentration of a substance called capsaicin. This substance is what gives it the heat. And its been widely studied for its cardiovascular benefits.

And, of course, if anyone has ever used spicy peppers you know that they can open congested nasal passages. The Capsaicin in peppers is similar to a compound found in many over the counter decongestants. But of course food is always better that drugs and, in this case, capsaicin works much faster. Sipping a tea made with hot cayenne pepper will very quickly stimulate the mucus membranes lining the nasal passages causing drainage, helping to relieve congestion and stuffiness. Next time you get a cold, give it a try. This also makes a great liquid to gargle with if you have a sore throat. The pepper "burns away" the pain, numbing it out and killing the virus!

And one last but not least benefit you can receive with using hot peppers such as cayenne is that it can boost your metabolism. That heat that you feel after eating something hot, takes calories to produce. So this is a great seasoning to use if youre trying to lose weight.

Cayenne pepper adds zest and heat to many dishes. You can control the heat by lightly dusting your food or kick it up a notch by adding more.

•Sprinkle Cayenne to any stir fry dish, stews and chilis
•Keep a shaker of cayenne on the table next to the salt and pepper so its handy.
•Canned beans are the perfect food for adding cayenne to. Chop up some onion and tomato, sprinkle on some cayenne and what a perfect side dish for you next Mexican meal.
•Sprinkle on Baked potatoes, sliced jicama.
•Great in scrambled eggs. Deviled eggs
•Mix into dips such as guacamole or salsa.
