The “Kate” is an old English pattern from the Victorian period. It’s a good pattern for someone who’s starting to tie classic salmon flies
The “Kate” was originated by Mrs. Courtney, there are many variations of this fly including hairwing.

Hook: Gaelic Supreme Blind Eye size 3/0
Eye: Silkworm Gut
Tag: Fine Oval Silver Tinsel and Yellow Silk Floss
Tail: Golden Pheasant Crest
Veil: Kingfisher (Sub.)
Butt: Ostrich Herl
Body: First Part, Crimson Silk Floss. Second Part, Crimson Seals Fur Dubbing
Body Hackle: Crimson Hackle
Rib: Medium Flat Embossed Silver Tinsel and Fine Oval Silver Tinsel
Underwing: Golden Pheasant Tippets
Wing: Married Strands from bottom to the top, Florican Bustard, Dyed Yellow and Red Turkey and Cory Bustard, Repeat Two more times and topped off with Argus Pheasant.
Note: The florican Bustard, yellow, red turkey and Argus Pheasant all have three strands with a single strand of cory bustard between the dyed turkey.
Sides: Married sections of Teal and Wood Duck and Jungle Cock Eyes
Throat: Yellow Hackle
Hood: Bronze Mallard
Cheeks: Blue Chatterer
Topping: Golden Pheasant Crest
Horns: Blue Macaw
Head: Black
