At Summerslam 2003, Triple H hit Goldberg with a sledgehammer in the Elimination Chamber to retain the title. Evolution cuffed Goldberg and took him out. On Raw, Goldberg challenged Triple H for the world title that night. Triple H told him they will face each other at Unforgiven instead, if Goldberg puts his career on the line and Goldberg accepted. Next week, Triple H, Randy Orton and Ric Flair faced Maven, Shawn Michaels and Goldberg. With Triple H watching, Goldberg hit Randy with the Jackhammer to win the match. A week later, Co-General Manager Steve Austin said that if Triple H gets counted out or disqualified at Unforgiven, he will lose his title. Later that night, Goldberg faced Triple H in a tag match, each with a surprise partner. Flair was Triple H’s partner and Randy was Goldberg’s partner and Goldberg realized it was a set-up. The cage got lowered, Goldberg hit Randy with a spear, Triple H hit Goldberg with a chair and they took him out. This has to be the worst pedigree ever, so Triple H did it again. They finally met. The ref got knocked down, Triple H hit Goldberg with the sledgehammer, who then caught him with a spear and then with the Jackhammer to pin him and win the title.
