These fast and epic traction elevators are among the small number of known 700FPM installations in the DC region, and these happen to be fully publicly accessible as they are the only means of entering and exit the train platform at this station besides the emergency stairwell. This metro station is about 20 floors below ground, making high speed elevators a necessary way of moving people into and out of the station. They run amazingly, and while they aren't the most fun 700FPMs in the region, they're extremely accessible and still a ton of fun. There's been some debate about the speeds of these, partially thanks to Wikipedia saying they go 1000FPM. While the machines may be capable of 1000FPM, these elevators all top out at 700FPM, as seen in the screenshot at the end of the video. While not in this video, the "service elevator" serving the intermediate floors has the typical MAD voice most commonly heard on TKE installs rather than the WMATA voice, and ran the roughest at the time of filming.

For guests/people unfamiliar with the DC metro system, you'll need a SmarTrip card (or digital card in Apple/Google wallet) to access the system and these elevators. If you get in and out of the same station within 15 mins, you won't get charged the fare - meaning you can spend less than 15 mins filming these after tapping in, then exiting within that time frame to not be charged. Note that you'll need to pay for parking if you drive here and it's a weekday. Otherwise, as long as you enter and exit from the same station (even if you ride for several hours), you'll only be charged the minimum fare ($2.25).

The next station travelling Northeast towards Glenmont has the longest escalators in the western hemisphere. Additionally, as of the day I recorded this video (December 15, 2024), all red line trains are back to automatic and full speed operation, weather and track conditions permitting. The remaining lines will still be manually driven until WMATA gets full approval to switch back to ATO next year.
