The road to 7 Race Course Road, the residence of the Indian
Prime Minister, it is often said, is via the thickly populated plains of
Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, which collectively send 120 members to the Lok
Sabha. In the 1990s, through some very well thought out campaign
strategies ans also because of the groundswell of emotion that was the
direct result of the 'Ram Janmabhoomi' movement, the BJp had succeeded
in storming the UP fortress, consistently winning over 50 seats in the
Lok Sabha elections. But, in the 2000s, their strength eroded and in
2009, BJP polled a meagre 10 seats in UP which is why the party decided
to plug the holes in its campaign this time and firmly directed its
focus on UP and Bihar. This special bulletin focuses on the prospective
results in the two states.
