Testing the Intel i9-12900KS 16-core 24-thread CPU in popular and demanding games, productivity applications and synthetic benchmarks in 2024, using an RX 7900 XT discrete GPU.

With the sky falling on Intel’s 13th and 14th generation Raptor Lake CPUs lately, anyone looking into buying a new or used Intel system in 2024 might be considering the older 12th generation instead. While the i9-12900KS was never well regarded in its day, due to the rather meaningless upgrade from its predecessor, as an alternative to one of the current gen i7s that are evidently having reliability issues, this is probably the best option on the table that isn’t made by AMD. But is it any good?
